On the night of June 9, 2025, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked Russia’s VNIIR-Progress (ВНИИР-Прогресс) plant in the city of Cheboksary. This facility plays a critical role in Russia’s military-industrial complex, producing electronics for missiles, drones, and guided bombs.
In particular, today we will talk about the Interference-proof CRP “Kometa-M8” (Комета-М8).

“Kometa-M8 is a Russian interference-proof antenna with a circular radiation pattern designed to provide stable reception of satellite navigation signals (GPS, GLONASS) in conditions of active electronic jamming. It belongs to the CRPA (Controlled Radiation Pattern Antenna) class and is an 8-channel adaptive array antenna capable of dynamically suppressing interference and providing reliable navigation for various types of military equipment.
Several versions of the Kometa exist, including models for manned aircraft, ground vehicles, and stationary installations. The “M” variant is specifically designed for use on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Thanks to this device, Russian “Shahed” drones and air bombs were resistant to Ukrainian electronic warfare for some time. That is, this device and its manufacturer are responsible for hundreds of deaths of innocent Ukrainian citizens, including children, and thousands of destroyed and damaged civilian objects.

Dallas is making the manual for the device publicly available

As with any new weapon, countermeasures are eventually developed. Russia is reportedly preparing to deploy an upgraded version, the Kometa-M12, to replace the Kometa-M8.
The sanctions pressure against Russia is working, but it needs to be strengthened. In fact, the destruction of key production facilities may prove even more effective than sanctions alone. A successful strike on VNIIR-Progress could significantly disrupt Russia’s ability to manufacture critical components, potentially reducing the number of drones, bombs, and missiles deployed against Ukrainian civilians.
